Liverpool Says No to Bayern’s Bid for Luis Diaz

Bayern Munich bid for Luis Diaz

Summary:

  • Liverpool has rejected Bayern Munich’s bid for 28-year-old Colombian winger Luis Diaz.
  • Sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed no further talks were underway.
  • Diaz’s current contract at Liverpool will run until 2027, with little expectation of signing an extension.

Liverpool has made it clear to Bayern Munich that Luis Diaz isn’t going anywhere. Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, was told the 28-year-old winger is off the table, and talks have stalled.

Second Rejection

This is the second time this summer that Liverpool have turned down offers for Diaz, as they did the same with Barcelona earlier in the window.

The club continues to see Diaz as an important player for the future, and despite all the rumors about him possibly leaving, they’re determined to keep him at Anfield for the coming football seasons.

Bayern Munich’s recent approach is just the latest in a string of reported suitors.

The Bavarian giants have stepped up their interest partly due to their squad reshuffle, as Nico Williams has made it clear he wants to leave for Barcelona, and Jamie Gittens is heading to Chelsea

With Leroy Sane having departed for Galatasaray on a free transfer, Bayern is actively searching for new options on the wing.

Marcus Rashford is also rumored to be an alternative target for Bayern as the England international is expected to exit Manchester United this summer. However, Liverpool is keen to hold onto Diaz rather than lose him to a rival.

No Fresh Contract Announced

Diaz’s contract situation is still up in the air for the time being, as the Colombian is under contract with Liverpool until 2027, but it doesn’t seem like he’s in a hurry to sign a new deal.

The club has made some efforts to offer better terms, but so far, nothing’s really come of it.

Instead of cashing in by selling him now, Liverpool seems willing to keep Diaz for the next couple of years, making the most of what he brings on the field before he potentially leaves for free.

When Diaz joined Liverpool back in January 2022, his salary was pretty modest compared to some of the team’s top stars.

Still, he’s become an important player for Arne Slot’s squad, and there were talks earlier this year about giving him a new contract that better reflects his role, though that doesn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon.

However, those plans now appear unlikely, leaving Diaz on course to leave Anfield at age 30 without a transfer fee.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest has agreed a fee with Lyon to sign promising winger Malick Fofana, who has been linked with Liverpool.

Lyon’s recent financial troubles, which culminated in their demotion to Ligue 2, have forced them to sell top players. Rayan Cherki has already moved to Manchester City who were dumped out of the Club World Cup by Al Hilal.

Although Forest has a deal in place with Lyon, Fofana himself has yet to agree on terms, reportedly holding out for a move to a Champions League club.
