Jamie Carragher backs Michael Carrick for permanent Manchester United job

Summary:

  • Jamie Carragher believes Michael Carrick has earned the Manchester United job permanently.
  • United beat Brentford 2-1 and sit third in the Premier League table.
  • Carrick has won 9 of his 13 games in charge since taking over in January.

Manchester United are moving closer to securing a return to the Champions League, and interim manager Michael Carrick is now being tipped to keep the job beyond this season.

9 Out of 13 Victories

United strengthened their grip on a top-four place with a 2-1 win over Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday night. The result leaves them third in the Premier League, 11 points clear of sixth place with four matches remaining

Qualification could even be confirmed as early as next weekend when they face Liverpool.

Since taking over in January, Carrick has overseen a strong run of form, winning nine of his 13 matches in charge. That improvement has led to growing support for him to remain in the role permanently despite earlier doubts.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was one of the most vocal supporters of that view. Speaking on Sky Sports, he said:

He’s going to be the Manchester United manager, certainly next season, no doubt about that, and you can’t say he doesn’t deserve it.

“Absolutely Sensational Results”

They are absolutely sensational results. They’re the results of a title-winning team, or a team going for the league

He also suggested Carrick has shown tactical flexibility, something he believes has been missing in recent United setups. He added:

The biggest criticism of Ruben Amorin was that he never adapted, Carrick has shown he can adapt.

United defender Harry Maguire also praised the impact of the interim boss, pointing to the team’s improved confidence and structure since his arrival.

The results speak for themselves, since the manager has come in, and the formation has changed, we just seemed to pick up results

He added that the squad feels more stable defensively and more efficient in attack, even if there is still room for improvement.

Former United captain Gary Neville echoed that sentiment, noting that Carrick appears to be getting “the absolute maximum out of this group of players” while also showing tactical awareness during matches.

Carrick has remained cautious regarding his future, preferring to focus on results and upcoming Premier League fixtures instead.

Following the win against Brentford, he described United as being “in a good position” but, atthe same time, emphasized the importance of staying well-grounded during the final stretch of the season.
