Police Investigate British Superbikes Crash That Killed Two Riders

A devastating crash at Oulton Park has left the motorsport world reeling, as two riders, Owen Jenner and Shane Richardson, tragically lost their lives following a horrific multi-bike collision during the British Supersport Championship.

Single Incident Escalated into Nightmare

The accident occurred just seconds into the race, as riders exited the first corner. What started as a single incident quickly escalated into a nightmare, with several bikes entangled, one catching fire, and medics rushing to the scene. 

Emergency services responded immediately, but despite their efforts, both Jenner, 21, and Richardson, 29, succumbed to their injuries. Another rider, Tom Tunstall, 47, suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized.

Police are investigating two deaths on behalf of the coroner following a multiple collision at Oulton Park this afternoon – Monday 5 May. Emergency services were called to the scene following the collision which resulted in two riders being fatally injured and another with serious injuries.

Due to the severity of the incident and ongoing medical response, the remainder of the event was cancelled. 

Authorities, including the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR), have launched a full investigation alongside the Coroner and Cheshire Constabulary.

Racers and Fans Express Grief on Social Media

Jenner, a rising British talent racing for Rapid Honda, sustained a catastrophic head injury. He was treated trackside before being taken to the circuit medical centre, where he sadly passed away. 

MSVR said in a statement,

Owen Jenner (21) was initially treated trackside and then taken to the circuit medical centre, where despite further resuscitation treatment, he died from a catastrophic head injury.

Richardson, a beloved New Zealand rider representing Astro-JJR Hippo Suzuki, was airlifted to the hospital with serious chest injuries but died before reaching the facility. 

Shane Richardson (29) was initially treated trackside and then taken to the circuit medical centre before being transferred to Royal Stoke University Hospital with severe chest injuries. He died prior to arrival.

Outpourings of grief flooded social media from fellow racers and fans. “Going to miss you mate x” one friend wrote. Another added, “You have been there for me over the years… the awning will never be the same.

Just before the race, Richardson had posted a video captioned: “Race 2 ready, let’s go!”, a heartbreaking reminder of a life taken far too soon.
