West Ham Fans Turn on Team After 2–0 Loss to Brentford

West Ham fans stage boycott as Nuno Espírito Santo side loses to Brentford in Premier League 2025 season

Summary:

  • West Ham were booed off after a poor home defeat to Brentford.
  • Some fans boycotted the match in protest over the club’s management.
  • Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo admitted the team must win back supporters’ trust.

There weren’t many fans in their seats when West Ham kicked off against Brentford in the Premier League, and even fewer by the time the final whistle blew. Those who stayed until the end made their feelings clear, booing the team off after a flat 2-0 defeat that could easily have been much worse.

Nuno: “We Have a Problem.”

Tension is growing at London Stadium. Some supporters have chosen not to attend in protest over how the club is being run, while others are simply disillusioned by what they’re seeing on the pitch. For new head coach Nuno Espírito Santo, it’s been a rough start, with three games played, zero victories, and a fanbase quickly losing patience.

There was no attempt to soften the blow in his post-match comments after his first home match in charge.

Not good enough. Poor. Fairly, Brentford won the game; they were the better team.

He didn’t try to hide from the bigger issue either.

I think we are all concerned. You can see our own fans are concerned. Concern becomes anxiety, becomes silence. That anxiety passes to the players. We have a problem. It’s understandable. It’s up to us to change. The fans need to see something that pleases them, and they can support us and give us energy. I understand it totally, and I respect it. It’s up to us to change it. We are the people who have to pull the fans back together.

Four Points in Eight Matches

The mood around the club has turned grim as West Ham is now sitting 19th in the Premier League, with just four points obtained at the end of eight matches. However, supporters are truly worried about the lack of fight and belief right now.

The loss to Brentford didn’t show any spark or sense of direction, with Keith Andrews’ side pressing harder, having sharper passes, and looking more confident from start to finish. West Ham created a few half-chances but never looked like scoring.

After the match speaking to BBC Sport, Nuno acknowledged that fixing the team’s mentality and reconnecting with fans will be just as important as finding goals.

It’s a challenge for all of us. It’s up to us to change the momentum and bring our fans back to support us. In four days’ time we need a big improvement.

The Hammers will get a chance to do just that soon, with a trip to Leeds on Friday, and a lot more than points at stake.
