England look downcast after worst Six Nations Campaign whilst Ireland celebrate winning the 2026 Triple Crown

Summary:

  • France claimed the Six Nations title with thrilling wins, scoring 30 tries but conceding 19.
  • Ireland grabbed the Triple Crown while England lived its worst tournament in its history.
  • Scotland, Italy, and Wales all had memorable moments, with Italy beating England for the first time and Wales ending a long losing streak.

The 2026 Six Nations went down pretty much like a rollercoaster ride, with France eventually taking home the trophy at the end of an unpredictable tournament.

Fans clung to the edge of their seats until the final whistle, when the French became champions for the eighth time following a 48-46 victory against England

29 Tries Across Three Matches on Super Saturday

Super Saturday viewers witnessed no less than 29 tries spread across three matches, a number that represents the highest ever in a single day of the championship, going over 2015’s previous record.

France’s journey began with a strong win over Ireland in Paris and ended with a thrilling win against England. Thomas Ramos’ last-minute penalty sealed the win, keeping France’s streak alive for the first time since 2006-2007.

It was England’s worst Six Nations in history, with just one victory in five games. Nonetheless, captain Maro Itoje and coach Steve Borthwick saw encouraging signs, especially during their close contest with France.

While errors and disciplinary issues cost them, the squad demonstrated the potential to rebuild and compete at a high level.

France captain Antoine Dupont said,

We can create a try from nowhere. We say: ‘you score 30 points, we will score 31.’ That’s how we play.

Yet while France’s attacking game dazzled, their defence left room for improvement, conceding 19 tries over the tournament. Defence coach Shaun Edwards remained upbeat.

Rugby at the moment, particularly the Six Nations, is just phenomenal.

Strong Tourney for Ireland, Frustrating Run for Scotland

Ireland had a strong tournament as well, claiming the Triple Crown with a win over Scotland. Despite an early setback against France, skipper Caelan Doris highlighted the team’s growth.

We’ve shown good resolve in bouncing back. The Italy performance wasn’t great, but we’re moving things in the right way

Scotland continued to frustrate themselves and their fans, with big wins over England and France, but ultimately falling short against Ireland.

Meanwhile, Italy marked their first historical victory against England, proving they are no longer automatic wooden spoon contenders, while Wales ended a long losing streak with a 31-17 win over Italy.
